BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Scientists from the University of Illinois believe they’ve found a way to stop cancer cell growth using venom.

Their technique uses the venom from bees, snakes, and scorpions, which is similar to how ancient doctors treated ailments.  Although venom can hurt all cells, this technique will, in theory, only target cancer cells.

The work is still in its early stages but has shown success in stopping breast cancer and melanoma cell growth in lab tests.
