Ozarks State of Mind

A member of the mint family, commonly known as the heart-leaf skullcap or Heart-Shaped Skullcap whose range is from Minnesota to Florida, and from Kansas to the Atlantic coast. Although widespread, the plant is listed as threatened in Minnesota and Probably Extirpated in Michigan. A perennial, it is found in open woodlands, roadsides and brushy slopes on occasion. It prefers moist sand, loam, clay, or limestone soils. Blooming May through July, it is often mistaken for Hairy Skullcap (Scutellaria elliptica).
